The #SaveLACougars campaign has successfully coordinated decades of effort to build the Wallis Annenberg Wildlife Crossing over LA’s 101 freeway, reconnecting a critical wildlife corridor in the Santa Monica Mountains and saving the region’s cougar population from extinction. In honor of LA’s famous mountain lion known as P-22, the #P22Legacy phase of this monumental effort seeks to raise $15M to complete the Wallis Annenberg Wildlife Crossing as a fully integrated thriving habitat and advance future wildlife crossings across Southern California.
These efforts will continue to reconnect critical wildlife corridors and restore the ecological vibrancy of the country’s most densely populated urban area – a conservation legacy of the century.
The #SaveLACougars campaign and Friends of Griffith Park are inviting artists everywhere to send their ideas for a memorial sculpture of the beloved, P-22 mountain lion. Artists should submit their interest to p22mountainlion@nwf.org by January 31st to be considered.
